Norman&Corrie, the Scottish musical duo, have swiftly built a reputation for delivering captivating concerts filled with spontaneity, heart, and an extraordinary connection that defies their youth. Their performances consistently leave audiences feeling uplifted and inspired. These two musicians are dedicated to breathing new life into ancient melodies for the contemporary world. With deep respect for their shared heritage, they bridge the gap between tradition and innovation, infusing ancestral melodies with modern production techniques and instruments.

Their unique setup, featuring a drum kit, saxophone, and organ foot pedals, combined with expert sound design, results in music that’s both vibrant and firmly rooted. Norman and Corrie are immersed in the folk and jazz scene, Corrie performing with Dinosaur, Jacob Collier, and Rob Luft, and Norman working with The Peatbog Faeries and Beth Orton. Together, they bring to life a project that reflects their shared Scottish identity. As ECM recording artist Huw Warren notes: “Their sound is enticing and thoughtfully matches the content, offering a new form from separate musical styles.”

While challenging traditional notions of folk music, Norman&Corrie hold dear the qualities that have made this genre timeless: honesty, resilience, and a deep connection to life’s stories. With diverse backgrounds and a spirit of exploration, their performances transport listeners to a time when life moved at a slower, more deliberate pace, using drones, ancestral melodies, and field recordings to create an immersive experience. In a significant milestone, they’ve received support from Creative Scotland to establish a residence in Shetland, where they’ll learn from tradition-bearers and explore archives of scores and recordings. This creative journey will be documented, leading to the release of their debut album and a companion documentary in 2024.

Martin Green (Lau) – “It is a rare and wonderful thing to encounter genuinely original music, the salt-bite of the North Isles is thrust head-first into a brave new experimental world. Here we have two musicians transcending both jazz and folk; utterly in control, and creating a singular voice like no other”

Adrian Utley (Portishead) – ‘Thank you Norman and Corrie for these beautiful interpretations. You are so authentic and speak of old music but are genuinely contemporary to my ears. Powerful and assured.

Ruth Goller (Melt Yourself Down, Sam Amidon) -“Waking up in cold rainy Helsinki this morning, listening to this music, I felt loved, warm and connected to the world around me, although finding myself in foreign lands. I love the soft sounds embracing me. The folky meldies take me back to my second home, the fields where I walk everyday and look over the horizons. The drones allow me time to be, to think and not to rush to whatever is coming next, then rhythms remind me to carry on with my head high and to think positive. Today I will be the best human i can.”

BLACK SABBATH MODE

BLACKSABBATHMODE – B:Music and PRSF present a collaboration between nu-jazz duo BIGHEADMODE (Robbie & Ewan Moore) and Plumm, a distinguished multi-instrumentalist bandleader based in South London. Together, they have sculpted a captivating suite inspired by the legendary Midlands band, Black Sabbath.

This seamless fusion intertwines BIGHEADMODE’s ethereal, jazz-infused grooves reminiscent of Herbie Hancock’s Mwandishi, with echoes of J Dilla and Kruangbin, alongside Plumm’s soulful, atmospheric soundscapes inspired by musical luminaries like David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, and Janis Joplin.

Departing from conventional cover projects, the endeavour captures the essence and vitality of Black Sabbath’s style through original compositions. The suite features electronic elements, improvisation, and unique arrangements of select Black Sabbath tracks, including Paranoid, War Pigs, and Fairies Wear Boots, infused with a distinct, edgy, and dynamic interpretation.

This musical journey signifies a remarkable exploration into uncharted territories while paying homage to the enduring legacy of Black Sabbath.

Kapil Seshasayee plus Raj Mahal

Kapil Seshasayee is a protest musician from Scotland whose work fuses R&B, Indian classical and jazz fusion with contemporary electronic genres like hyperpop. Singles released from his LP “Laal” have featured at Rolling Stone India, BBC Radio4, Bandcamp, The Quietus, The Hindu, BBC Radio6 Music, BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Asian Network.

“Laal” is a concept album about the influence of Bollywood and Indian cinema – platforming conversations around censorship, nationalism and caste which aren’t discussed often in mainstream media circles. Kapil also hopes to celebrate unsung heroes of the Indian film industry with singles from the album such as the director of queer film “The Pink Mirror” – Sridhar Rangayan. Kapil has showcased songs from “Laal” across SXSW, South Asian festival Dialled in, Latitude Festival, The Roundhouse and venues such as the Concorde 2 in Brighton alongside artists such as Tinariwen, Talvin Singh and Sarathy Korwar.

Highly sought after for session work due to his idiosyncratic guitar playing – Kapil has amassed a number of high profile collaborations and commissions including a rework of a Ravi Shankar composition to commemorate his 100th birthday for BBC Asian Network, a collaborative single with rap legend LIL B and performances in Glasgow Royal Concert Hall alongside Billy Bragg and members of legendary Scottish acts Mogwai / Belle & Sebastian.

“Quite extraordinary… Nimbus Sextet have caught our attention in a big way” – JAZZ FM

Nimbus Sextet are one of the most innovative groups in the new wave of UK jazz. Performing in and selling out the UK and Europe’s top jazz venues including New Morning, Ronnie Scott’s and Pizza Express Jazz Club, the Joe Nichols led outfit have firmly established themselves as a major force in UK jazz and an increasingly prominent voice in the European jazz scene.

Nimbus Sextet’s albums – Dreams Fulfilled (2020) and Forward Thinker (2022) – were both released on the legendary Acid Jazz label. Championed by Jazz FM, they have garnered international acclaim from the likes of Jazzwise, Clash Magazine, RFI, Jamie Cullum on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 6 Music among many others.

As part of their UK summer tour, Nimbus Sextet will perform music from their hotly anticipated third album, due for release later in the year. Special guest vocalists Russell Stewart and lissappear (who appeared on the band’s recent Jazz FM A-listed version of Roy Ayers’ Searching) and trombonist/vocalist Christopher Small will join the band for their Glasgow Jazz Festival appearance at NiceNSleazy.

“Joe Nichols sets Nimbus Sextet firmly apart from their UK jazz peers. This is a band capable of diversely off kilter composition and sometimes, something more sublime” – UNCUT
